Physics-Based Segmentation of Complex Objects Using Multiple Hypotheses of Image Formation

scription of Fig. 1, a picture containing numerous objects with many different reflective properties. We present a general framework for the segmentation of complex scenes using multiple physical hypotheses of image For a computer, however, images containing multiformation. These hypotheses specify broad classes for the shape, colored objects and multiple materials such as Fig. 1 are illuminati...

Bayesian Motion Estimation and Segmentation Bayesian Motion Estimation and Segmentation

Estimating motion in scenes containing multiple moving objects remains a diicult problem in computer vision yet is solved eeortlessly by humans. In this thesis we present a computational investigation of this astonishing performance in human vision. The method we use throughout is to formulate a small number of assumptions and see the extent to which the optimal interpretation given these assum...

Dynamic Structure from Motion using Uncalibrated Cameras and Unsegmented Scenes

Much work has been done in the last decade by the Computer Vision community in understanding the geometry of images of a rigid scene taken by a moving camera. The case of a scene containing motion has been largely ignored. Since most video footage aim at capturing events, hence motion, the need for handling dynamic scenes became apparent. Our work deals with discovering the geometrical models a...

Interpretation of complex scenes using dynamic tree-structure Bayesian networks

This paper addresses the problem of object detection and recognition in complex scenes, where objects are partially occluded. The approach presented herein is based on the hypothesis that a careful analysis of visible object details at various scales is critical for recognition in such settings. In general, however, computational complexity becomes prohibitive when trying to analyze multiple su...

Online multiple people tracking-by-detection in crowded scenes

Multiple people detection and tracking is a challenging task in real-world crowded scenes. In this paper, we have presented an online multiple people tracking-by-detection approach with a single camera. We have detected objects with deformable part models and a visual background extractor. In the tracking phase we have used a combination of support vector machine (SVM) person-specific classifie...

On the usefulness of attention for object recognition

Today’s object recognition systems have become very good at learning and recognizing isolated objects or objects in images with little clutter. However, unsupervised learning and recognition in highly cluttered scenes or in scenes with multiple objects are still problematic. Faced with the same issue, the brain employs selective visual attention to select relevant parts of the image and to seri...
